Ancient Americas Project Specifications and Resources

Researching, Learning, Writing, and Sharing Information
on the Aztec, Mayan, Inca, Pueblo,
Anasazi, and Mound Builders Cultures

The Task

Write a story about a girl or boy (the same gender as you) from the ancient culture you were assigned. Tell about her/his:

  • daily life
  • family
  • religion
  • customs
  • expectations
  • school/education
  • culture
  • history
  • housing
  • Be creative. Let your imagination take you back to this ancient time. Weave your story with the facts you will gather.
  • Include a background image or color and illustrations.
  • To write your story you will need to find information, statistics, and images relating to your topic.
  • We will be collecting all your individual stories into an on-line Ancient Americas Storybook.

The Process

To write your story you will have to follow these steps:

1. You will be assigned a topic by Mrs. Rumpf.

2. Fill out the "Big 6" research outline form #1 - #5 and hand it in at the end of class on March, 1, 2004. Mrs. Woodward will check them over and return them to you.

3. Use the resources listed below and the Pathfinder resources from Mrs. Woodward, to start your research in the library and on the web.

4. Write your story using MSWord only.

5. Store your work in your personal folder on INET/Students/2009/yourname

6. When you are all finished and your work has been approved by Mrs. Rumpf, please save it in "HTML format". To do this select "Save as a Web Page" and put it in the special folder on INET/Students/2009/1. Ancient Americas.

7. Your final project must include:

  • Title
  • Body of the paper (3 pages, not including diagrams or illustrations)

    • Use TimesNewRoman; font size 12, spaced at 1.5)
  • Illustrations
  • Works Cited (Bibliography)
  • Don't forget to include your name ( first name only for your final web page and the date completed)

8. Be prepared to present your story to the rest of the class. You will also need to hand
in a print copy of your story.
