Kindergarten
To our incoming Kindergarten children and families please read the picture book "The Night Before Kindergarten" by Wang in August just before we start school. There is no other specific book for incoming Kindergarten children though of course I would highly enjoy everyone to read 4-5 books (or more!) aloud to his/her child everyday.

Summer Reading
First, let us explain summer reading. We would like you to read at least one fiction book with immigration between 1890 and 2010 as a central theme. We suggest additional reading of historical fiction or non-fiction based on 20th century American history or medieval history. A good resource for finding these books is your own public library.
Reading Response
On looseleaf paper, in your very best handwriting and with most careful spelling and punctuation, answer the following questions. On the top line place your name. On the next line, place the title of your book. On the third line place the author’s name. Skip a line. Number and answer each response and then skip a line. Proofread your work carefully.
- What made immigration necessary for the main character?
- What changes did the main character face?
- What obstacles and problems did the main character encounter, and how did they overcome or resolve them?
- Was immigration the right solution for the main character? Why?
*Please plan to hand this in on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, September 2.
