Fantasy Fiction

Fantasy is imaginative fiction that deals with alternate realities, that suspends scientific explanations and natural laws; it is a search for a deeper reality and eternal truth.
Literature and the Child, 2nd edition, by Bernice E. Cullinan

Eragon                        By:  Christopher Paolini

This book is about a boy in medieval times who finds a dragon egg while hunting and later discovers his true destiny: to be a dragon rider.  Along the way, he meets up with an old man named Brom; later he meets a boy named Mertag.  Both help him on his way.   At first he goes out to take revenge on these creatures called Ras’acs who killed his uncle; he finds out later that the evil King Gallobrax also has a dragon egg, so he sets off to stop him.

The Horse and His Boy by C.S.Lewis
The Horse and His Boy was about a boy named Shasta, who is the son of a fisherman. A man with a horse came along and asked to stay with them and rest. The stranger offered to buy the boy from his father. Shasta heard about this and was sad. He decided to run away. He found out that the horse could talk because he was from Narnia, so they both left together for adventures in Narnia and the North.
This book is part of a series called Narnia - the third book. I suggest you read the ones before it before you read this one, so it will make more sense.

book cover The book Redwall by Brian Jacques was an excellent book. Redwall's abbey is a peaceful place until Cluny the one-eyed rat comes to conquer it. A brave mouse named Mattias courageously sets out to find the lost sword of Martin the Warrior.
This is a great book for someone who likes fantasy/adventure stories.

book cover The Wind Singer by William Nicholson, is a fairly new book that not many people have heard about. It takes place in a different world, and is about twins, Kestrel and Bowman. In the city where they live, Aramanth, families are placed in different classes due to what they like. The rules are strict. Kestral and her brother do not agree with this system, and the set out to find the "voice" of the Wind Singer, a structure in the middle of the city.
Spiced up with plot twists and interesting creations and characters, The Wind Singer is a fast-moving suspenseful book. I recommend it to fans of Lois Lowry, JK Rowling, and Philip Pullman.

book cover The Wild Road by Gabriel King is a book where animals can talk and it takes place in the wilderness. I usually don't like these kinds of books, but this is one of the few I like. It is about a cat named Tag and he was chosen to save the king and queen. It's a complicated book considering a lot goes on at once. It is a good book.

book cover The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
This book had a lot of thought put into it. It is an adventure book about a girl who battles to show her courageous side when a loved one falls ill. I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, or a really good book.

book cover The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, I think, is a great book. It is about a boy named Milo. He always has nothing to do, so he is always bored. Then, one day, when he gets home from school, he gets a present. It is a tollbooth. He goes through it and has an exciting adventure in a far away land. I extremely recommend this to you if your like fantasy stories.

book cover Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede starts in a boring kingdom called Linderwald, where Princess Cimorene is forced to sit through "princess lessons", etiquette, and what not. Princess Cimorene does not want to have lessons. She wants to fence and learn magic, but if can't do that, she'll settle for being a dragon's princess.

book cover I think that the book The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary was a good book. It is about a mouse that lives in the walls of a hotel. A little boy stays at the hotel and has a little toy motorcycle. The little mouse Ralph sees the motorcycle and loves it. My favorite part of the book is when Ralph rides the motorcycle down the halls and down the elevator. He even gets chased by a dog. I would definitely recommend it.
