Wooster's 5th Grade Students
Learn the Big6 Information & Research Process

2007

This project was based on the ever popular I Spy books by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick.

The students were put into small groups and asked to use the Big6 process in order to complete this I Spy project.
The assignment: Use magazine pictures and text to create a poster-sized page of hidden pictures, select a theme for the page, and write the accompanying riddle.
The completed project would be digitally photographed then added to the school's web pages! Each phase of the process
was guided by the six steps in the Big6 Information & Research Process.

I spy with my little eyes, a heart that says "go away." Look for a chocolate chip cookie next to a glass of milk, a white dog with a blue shirt and a pair of mittens and a purple fish emerging from a hole in the ice.

By Holly, Chad, Audrey

I spy with my little eye, 4 Simpson's skateboards, 6 dogs, 3 rabbits, the number 2, 4 skateboarding people, and 3 baseball players.

By Sasha, Sarah, and Scarlett

I spy 3 popsicles, some pointy teeth, 2 mice saying Hi, and a ringtail lemur wearing leaves. A pink "M," 4 sick eyes, and a striped "N."

The Big6™ is an information literacy model.
Some people call it a metacognitive scaffold, or an information problem solving strategy.
When you apply these 6 stages, you have an essential framework to approach any information-based question :
